Balcony Makeover

I recently moved to an apartment, and one space that needed a makeover was the balcony. I envisioned having a bohemian oasis with a rattan egg chair that I'm sure you have seen everywhere on Instagram and Pinterest. After looking at the $500 price tags, I couldn't afford it. So I searched high and low for affordable pieces and found pieces to give the balcony a boho flair.

Numerous furniture companies were out of stock or items or back-ordered due to pandemic, which made this makeover a challenge. Ikea is my goto for furniture, but finding pieces I loved available was so hard. I finally stumbled upon their plastic outdoor patio chair IKEA PS VÅGÖ a comfy lounge-style chair. I picked the Askholmen Table and Plant stand. I love that IKEA furniture collection styles have many options to choose from. The table was a little too high, I had my handy husband cut inches off the legs to lower the table.

It was important to me to have a mini herb garden on the balcony, and having the SOMMARFEST planter boxes were a must. Once adding soil and herbs to the planter, it did not stay sturdy on the balcony railing after adding zip ties. It was secured in place.

I also repurposed some items I had around the house like the lanterns were from my wedding in 2018, I spray painted them black. A thrift flip metal plant stand and serving tray, I painted black. I added old Ikea faux plants to the plant stand until I purchase real plants (only the aloe vera plant on the top is real).

With the repurposed items and items I purchased, my apartment balcony makeover cost under $250, which did not come close to the egg chair cost!

I miss brunching on patios and waterfronts in South Florida *sigh*, but drinking on my apartment patio will now work. Cheers!

Have you made over your patio or apartment balcony during the pandemic?
