Storage Bin Update

I am slowly transitioning the decor in my guestroom. I am not sure how to define my new interior design aesthetic yet but the previous accent pieces no longer fit the room. I have a cube organizer shelf with grey storage bin in the room and I wanted to add basket bins but the price tag for 8 bins is pricey. So I decided to update my current storage bins into baskets for a fraction of the cost.

I purchased the Ikea Underlag placemats for $1.99.

I measured the height of the bin against the placemat then cut off the excess mat.

I purchased my faux leather vinyl material from Joann's. You will need about less than a quarter of a yard. I scored by getting the fabric on sale and I had a coupon on top of that which made the fabric less than $7.

I used my Cricut to cut the faux leather handles. I put the Cricut on the faux leather material setting but it didn't cut through the entire fabric. I went back with scissors and cut the handles out. If you do not have a Cricut machine do not worry. Measure and cut out your handles to your liking then use a hole punch to mark the area where you will add screws.

To create a hole through the placemat I used an Exacto knife then screwed in the screws and added the screw nuts behind.

I then hot glued the mat to the front of the storage bin to keep on snug and secure.

When I use my storage bins I won't pull from the handles so the hot glue is enough for me. If you plan to store bulky or heavier items you may want to sew on the placemat for extra security.
